UC Santa Cruz Beginners — Saturday, November 7This one-day competition is for beginners—even if you’ve only been dancing for a few weeks! We’ll be going together as a team to dance, cheer each other on, and meet dancers from other schools :). You don’t need a partner. In Rookie-Vet events, a beginner (the rookie) dances with a more experienced dancer (the vet). Stanford vets will be joining us, and I’ll reach out after you sign up to help match partners. You can also sign up with a vet you’ve already spoken with. Coordination. We’ll add you to a WhatsApp group using the phone number on your form to arrange transportation and share final logistics. On the floor. You’ll dance in short rounds called heats. Experienced teammates will help you find your events and know when to go on. In class, we’ll cover walking onto the floor, starting your dance, bowing, floor presence, and navigating around other couples. What to wear. Choose comfortable clothes you can dance in; dressing up a little is encouraged. Bring dance shoes if you have them, and reach out if you need help finding a pair. Spectators are welcome too! Join us to cheer even if you’re not competing. Monday, October 26 — ClassesWhere: Roble Arts Gym, Room 115 (375 Santa Teresa St.) New to ballroom? Beginner classes are open to all Stanford affiliates; no experience, class registration, or partner required. We rotate partners, so just bring yourself :).
